Arena PvP Guide – Strategy

April 20th, 2008 by GoldWiki

We hit 2027 rating again. Last week we get over 2000+ rating. We thought it was luck. This week again standing over 2000+ rating. We’re still shocked. We started 4-5 weeks ago. My equip was mostly blue(BOE from AH, trash).  I upgrade it. Not so much, but I like it now. Manniax(our mage) started with level 60 PvP reward without resilience. Howned(Warrior) with full level 70 PvP blue equip and Gladiator’s Greatsword – he was best equipped of us.

We create a team Cruor (Holy Paladin), Howned (Arms Warrior), Manniax (Frost Mage). First time on Teamspeak, first “Hello loser!”. Only Howned had some experience from 3vs3 (Season 1 – 1800 rating).

History
First week, first 1600 rating.
Second week, OMG, we did it - 1700 rating!
Third week, MADE MY DAY, 1800 rating.
Fourth week,  GOAL 1800 rating.
Fifth-sixth week, GODLIKE! First 1900 and we also stay there next week.
Seventh week, MULTI KILL! 2004 rating. Please quit the game! You are overpowered!

How to get over 2000+ rating? We choose crowd control and nuke combo.

Mage can crowd control his opponent. Silence (most of targets are healers). Iceblock is perfect. There are often times when you have problems with healing warrior and mage can wait for your heal over 10 sec. Sheep – What to say? Sheep is perfect crowd control. Often key to win. Nuking - Manniax can do over 7000+ damage in a few seconds. Spellsteal – Blessing of Freedom. Frost Nova is another crowd control. (It helps while someone trying kite our warrior) Amplify magic against melee teams. Don’t play with fire mage, spec to frost, because fire mage is useless.

Paladin is the best combat healer. It is me who kites you! My task is kite the enemy, stay out of enemy range and keep alive my team. Keep Blessing of Freedom on Warrior, Me(kitting), Mage(sometimes). Hammer of Justice, BE Racial – Silence. (Crowd Control)

Warrior. Mortal Strike is a must! Harmstring. AoE Fear. Pummel and intercept good timing – interrupts.

Let´s start! What do you need to get over 2000+ rating?
First what you need is character knowledge (talents, skills, racials). It means what skills can paladin use. How many times he can use bubble and time between it. You need to know you can purge his bubble. You need to know, when your target is in cyclone you can’t heal him or buff him(immune). You need to know warrior>rogue. Overhealing, standing out of the range, moving around the pillars to avoid hunter damage(put him out of combat-useless)… Basic knowledge.

Conversation
Everything is about conversation and nuke timing. You have to be like one body. Everybody should know what to do. Don’t be shy, suggest each your idea. Conversation is very important factor.

Fight (Who first?)
You have to choose your first target. Also warrior should change sometimes (good timing) target for a while to confuse opponent. Also watch your opponent’s gear and spec. Fire mage should often go first (no survivability)

Holy Priest, Frost Mage, Rogue
Priest should go down first. Paladin kites rogue and opponent’s mage is sheeped. Or Frost Nova to CC Rogue(Priest is under attack dispel magic is no way!).  After “PRIEST DOWN” shout, next target is rogue because of warrior>rogue. Mage is silenced or sheeped. Paladin should here watch his HP because of mage burst damage+rogue. When 60% HP life, I recommend you bubble. Silence is devil. If you stand against this setup with fire mage then fire mage is your first dead body on the ground.

Shadow Priest, Warlock, Paladin
Definitely shadow priest should be first. Less survivability than Warlock. Mage should dispel curse of tongues. Also don’t stay in range of warlock.

Summary
It is really hard to write about each fight/combo. Arena fights are various. In a fact I cannot tell you what to do there and there. It is about system and rules. First target should be healer or easy-kill target (fire mage). I recommend you to find on warcraftmovies or here (if you are paladin) arena movies. Text cannot describe it.

Good to know!
Communication = CC and interrupts timing
Kitting your opponent
Environment – It is not only about 1-1-1-1 (EXECUTE, please- I mean damage). Jump from the bridge and move the whole fight down can really help you win, more than you think. Look around you and take advantage.

If you are not skilled enough, you have to get skill first.

Special thanks to Cruor for this article
